Preparations for our Up Helly Aa has been a large part of our day. As one pupil said, ‘This is a lot of work!’ A great way for them to appreciate the commitment necessary to see a major project through to the end, and work they did. Started on the shields which will be attached to the side of the galley. This year we are using tessellation and took a leaf out of Michaelangelo’s book when transferring the patterns onto the shields. If it’s good enough for the Sistine Chapel, it’s good enough for us!
Mid afternoon a truck arrived with the wood, roof sheeting and the fencing wire for our greenhouse. Stored in the play-shed, it is a very real example of measurements and calculations done by the pupils.
