Jigsaws

Posted by: rainbowlightschool | December 8, 2006 |

What do you do on a wet wintery Friday when you have no art teacher and Christmas decorations are on over kill?Everyone had to make jigsaws, pupils, parents and staff. We got every jigsaw we could find and started to make them.We soon had the floor covered with complete puzzles.Anything that was complete was given a simple code.We put the code on the box and then put the code on the back of every piece of the jigsaw. Now when we find a piece we can easily identify where it has come from.We were ruthless .Any jigsaw incomplete was dumped.Only three remained incomplete at the end of the day and two of them had come from a charity shop.Any jigsaw we buy from now on will immediately be given a code and pieces numbered. In a bigger school you could use a parents night to do this.

A lot of talking and learning went on as we did this.

We also put out an email to every school in SHetland inviting them to read our blog and leave a comment.WOnder who will be first to respond? Only when you leave a comment will we consider it a response, sending an email does not count.

We are looking at our emergency closure procedures in case of snow.We have almost everyone’s emergency numbers and contacts but please contact us if there is any change since the beginning of session.Remember pupils must stay in school until collected by an adult.Listen to  SIBC, radio Orkney and radio Shetland for information. The school will also contact parents by phone.

We saw your comment in the guestbook on our website (www.fetlar.shetland.sch.uk). Its nice to see another small shetland school on the web. There’s quite a few of us now it seems. Its much easier to communicate via the the internet during this horrible spell of weather.
I hope your comment about snow isn’t prior knowledge of immediate bad weather ahead. We are out and about a lot this week.
