Boiler men & Twitchers

Posted by: rainbowlightschool | October 4, 2006 |

Well it is a bit more like winter today.Good job the men turned up to do our boiler servicing in the middle of our cleaning.Yes we are cleaning and tidying before our visit from the film folk tomorrow.

It is amazing how much you collect in a school just in case.Things come wandering into the classroom from sheds and storage cupboards and rarely find their way back.So it was all hands to the pumps as we returned everything to its rightful place.

Thankfully we have a wonderful cleaner called Betty that keeps the place spotless. She will be pleased at our tidying up as well. She puts up with a lot and I don’t just mean glitter at Christmas. She has had a few months of crushed glass for starters.

We are also being kept amused by twitchers.Twitchers are bird watchers .They often arrive in the isle if there is a rare bird on the go.They tramp around endlessly looking for a glimpse. They are so intent on spying some rare creature that they often stumble and fall over or get stuck on a fence.Last night they were in a neighbouring garden in the black dark using torches as search lights.

A combine harvester went past in the middle of everything so that was cool according to the boys.

Some of the pupils are busy at night getting their ponies ready for the big show and sale in Lerwick.A very important day for them.Half of the school will be away on Friday showing in the sale ring.Learning for Life.

I was amused by your story of “The Twitchers”. We have seen them when we have been on Unst and they certainly make you smile. Sometimes you want to ask them if they’ve lost something especially when they are searching in the grass. I loved seeing
the puffins up on Hermaness. We don’t have puffins here.

I am sure your filming will go well. I look forward to reading all about it.

All the best to those who are involved in the pony sale and show on Friday.
