A “tune”

Posted by: rainbowlightschool | September 28, 2006 |

We have just ended the day with the music teacher giving us a tune on the fiddle.Shona demonstrated the Shetland backstep and Bryden the front step.Good way to finish off the day.

Worked with some of the boys on the beginnings of DeBono’s thinking hats.An interesting tool we use for writing.

We were all outside at dinnertime.Probably be one of the last days before winter.

Painting with Anna this morning was great fun for P.1-4.It gave the older ones peace to get on with their work.

Mrs Priest tried to teach me the Shetland back step once……..!!! I certainly couldn’t master it. I really admire the way Shetlanders can dance. We teach ballroom dancing here in our schools but we don’t have traditional dances like you. Within the Maori culture, there is wonderful song and dance including the famous Haka. I guess you have seen the All Blacks do that before a game of rugby. It’s another sunny day here. You mentioned that you may not be outside for many more dinner times before winter. In Tauranga our children are able to play outside right throughout winter. Occasionally (maybe only 2 or 3 times) they have to stay inside because of rain. Some of the schools in the South Island can be affected by snow.

Daylight saving starts here on Saturday night so we have got a barbeque planned for Sunday night on a local beach to welcome the summer. We will take our kayaks out on the harbour for a paddle before dinner.

Have a good weekend.

At my school we learn a knew Shetland word every week which is quite good because all the toonies in my class miss out all their t’s which really annoyed me. Our word this week is gluff.my teacher is Irish so she needs a Shetland dictoinary. I hopeeveryone has had a good time and I hope you are all excited about the October holidays .Have fun on your last days of school.
