Sheep Sale Day

Posted by: rainbowlightschool | September 13, 2006 |

LAst night was really calm and very foggy. As oon as you went outside you heard the sheep.Sheep calling for their lambs, lambs crying for their mothers.Very creepy.

At every croft on the island families had gathered together all the lambs and sheep for sale.Buyers come in from the mainland and the stock is auctioned on each croft.SOme of us got permission to stay on our croft until the buyers had been.Once the sheep are sold they are loaded on to trucks and transported to the pier in Baltasound to sail to the mainland.

The peerie boys have spent a lot of today watching the big sheep lorries go by.

Listening to the auctioneer is really funny. We try and work out who is bidding but that can sometimes be hard..

The girls went to Netball at lunch time and the boys are off to football after school. The Mother and Toddlers are playing houses down the stairs.Skerries school turned up again.

And the normal everyday work went on.P.5-7 got their TENS maths sheets sorted for 2 terms ,which is a big job.

The sheep sale day sounds interesting. You wonder how the auctioneers can speak so quickly and keep up with all that is going on. I know what it is like when it is foggy and it can feel a little creepy.
