SWAN TRIP

Posted by: rainbowlightschool | September 12, 2006 |

We are sailing.We are sailing.

Along with Mrs Priest and Anna we headed north to Baltasound for a morning on the Swan.If you follow this link you will find out all you need to about this amazing experience. All Shetland schools are given the opportunity of at least one trip a year.We had a calm but misty day.Not much wind for sailing but not much swell for seasickness either.

Everyone had a great morning except Mrs Coutts and Hazel who ploughed their way through the paperwork.

Dinners in Baltasound took on a Roald Dahl theme today as the librarian has organised a special Roald Dahl day.

P5-7 took part in the house basketball at dinner time. The usual events and happenings took place.Skerries school were there for a visit. They are doing the rounds.

The whole island is busy as tomorrow is sheep sale day but that is another story.

Great to see the link to the ‘Swan’. Two of the crew this time were musicians and were hoping for ‘a tune’. (Shetland term for a jam session) Four former pupils of the Uyeasound school went on board with their fiddles for one and a half hours of non stop tunes, mainly foot stomping Shetland reels and a few from Ireland. Finished with ‘Hamnataing’ on four fiddles and a wooden flute - what a perfect ending to a splendid evening.

I have seen the Swan tied up in Lerwick and I know that Mrs Priest’s daughter, Martha, has sailed on it a lot. I think I would rather have the calm day than a rough, sea sick day!
Children here in NZ love Roald Dahl too and we have many of his books here at home. My childen loved them.
