WAW!!What a day.The weather was fantastic.Blue skies,light wind,sunshine.Shetland at its best.
A good healthy crowd turned out,including visitors.People from all over Shetland and the local BBC.The Shetland Times sent a photographer.
Our local councillor Brian Gregson was master of ceremonies.Elizabeth Johnson cut the ribbon on behalf of Initiative at the edge who funded the garden.Bill Manson the head of the council for Children and young people planted the peace pole along with Derek jamieson our school board chairman.Mrs COutts read a message from Forthview Primary in Edinburgh who gave us the whole idea.
People read other messages from the Dumfries,Kildare and all over.Pupils and our neighbouring Head teacher made oaths for peace.Stewart Hubbard from Lerwick spoke on behalf of an Amnesty inernational prisoner from Burma.
Florence Grainds the Chairperson of Shetland Ameniety trust presented fire bundles to the guizer Jarl and 2 of the children.We burned one bundle along with our old Tibetan prayer flags.
We finished off with with tea and cake.
The most important thing is the bairns and all the bits they did today.SAying an oath for peace.Placing statues in the garden.Working with peace bundles and prayer flags.Placing the last bucket of glass in the garden.Everyone doing their bit.They can be very proud of their garden it really is beautiful.We hope they remember this for a long time.
