Winter is here

Posted by: rainbowlightschool | August 30, 2006 |

If yesterday was summer today was winter.Gales and rain.It reminded us to go around the playground gathering everything that could blow away.

Our school runs a breakfast club for our own pupils and some secondary ones.Everyone wanted something hot today toast, coffee, tea even porridge.Tomorrow is bacon rolls..Plenty of fruit juice and cereal on offer too.We bake our own bread which disappears if it is hot. This is all part of our health promoting school project.

Tuesday is the day we got to the leisure centre and secondary school at Baltasouind. We have swimming ,P.E.,library and the P.4-7 pupils get Home Economics.

A normal Tuesday you would think.NOOOOOO!! Electricians arrived and tested every electrical appliance in the schoolYes you have guessed it they switched off the router for the Internet and now it will not reconnect. No Internet again.Back on the phone to technicians.

I have visited Shetland 3 times so I have experienced all your weather from gales to beautiful sunshine. I certainly prefer the sunshine. You mentioned visiting the leisure centre. All our primary schools in New Zealand have their own pools and children swim in them from November to March (our summer). On my last visit to Shetland in July this year, I visited your school and was so impressed with the work you have done to create such a wonderful learning environment. You should all be very proud.
