Welcome to our journey - A year in the life of the Rainbow Light School

The Rainbow Light SchoolWhy the Rainbow Light School?

This was the name given to us by one of our small boys last year and we used it as our workshop presentation title at 2 national conferences. The photographs explain the rest.

Uyeasound Primary School is a small island school in Unst, Shetland. It has faced many changes in the past three years. You can read about our journey “Freedom from Failure” by clicking the link

Part of the journey was to create the Rainbow Light School as part of the Health Promoting Schools initiative. If you got to their web site you will find the whole project in great detail, including about 100 images which I can’t possibly post here. Will try and post a link later. So where are we now.Well like every other school in Scotland we are faced with the change to a Curriculum for Excellence and any other initiative the powers that be throw at us.We are also facing the prospect of closure and have an interesting journey through that process.

But what is really important is the 8 children from a small island community in the North Atlantic and the journey they make this year.

We invite you to join us.Somewhere over the Rainbow!

You have created a wonderful learning environment where the children are challenged to strive for excellence. I saw all your great work when I was there in July. Things like this only happen with a vision (and a lot of hard work!). I hope the authorities realise what a superb learning environment has been created for the children.
Keep striving for excellence. It is worth it.

Kind regards to you all,
Barbara

PS I really enjoyed the children’s comments. I could relate to them all.
